Not sure what to do this Sunday? Why not check out the islandâs biggest flea market in the charming village of Consell?
âConsell is a paradise for those who love old stuffâ
The Mercat de Vell de Consell, or Consell Flea Market, is one of those âyou have to see it to believe itâ kind of places. With an extraordinary mixture of antique and vintage pieces ranging from jewellery, toys, clothes, art, home dĂ©cor, glassware, and general tat, itâs like an amusement park for interior decorators, collectors and casual browsers. Located in the tiny village of Consell (population just under 4,000 souls), this flea market attracts people from all over the island looking for deals on an unimaginable array of hidden gems.
Hagglerâs Paradise #
As the largest of the islandâs flea markets, itâs no surprise there are seemingly endless stalls with vendors eager to sell their wares. So if you come across something that catches your fancy, donât be afraid to bargain. Your chances, as ever, are better toward the end of the market, but deals can be made even earlier in the day.
In addition to the outdoor market, there are a couple of vintage furniture shops located in warehouses within the grounds. These shops are more expensive and tend to give clients less wiggle room with regard to price but are well worth a look.
Protip: almost every vendor at this market will pass of their items as antique Please note that for something to be antique it has to be at least 100 years old! Typically furniture or household items from before the 1920 and value is determined whether something is rare..
But Wait! Thereâs More! #
When you can rummage no more and your tummy tells you itâs time to stop, there are also a few little cafes and street food sellers, mostly concentrated on a corner on the way out. There is even live music, so you can get your boogie on.
Getting There #
The stop in Consell is a 20-25 walk to the market. Parking is available on the premises, but come early, especially in summer, as it fills up quickly.
Consell Flea Market is located at:
Carrer Antonio BarcelĂł GarcĂa de Paredes, 2, 07330 Consell, Illes Balears
from 8h-14h every Sunday
